VLF Metal Detectors

Very low frequency is the technology behind most detectors ever sold, and it is still the right answer for a great deal of hunting. A VLF machine transmits on one frequency and reads the phase shift coming back, which gives it the sharpest discrimination of any detection method. It will separate a nail from a nickel more reliably than anything else on the market. The trade-off shows up in mineralised ground and wet salt, where it struggles. For parks, pasture, woodland and dry sand, a well-run VLF is hard to beat and usually cheaper.
