Picking a detector comes down to three questions: where you will swing it, what you are hoping to find, and how much ground noise you are willing to fight. Coin and relic hunters in mineralized soil want real ground balance and a tight discrimination pattern. Beach and surf hunters need a fully waterproof housing and multi-frequency or pulse induction performance in salt. Gold prospectors want high frequency and sensitivity to sub-gram targets.
