In this package the WS5 headphones are the control unit. There is no remote control on the stem, which makes this the lightest way to carry a Deus. XP states that performance is identical with or without the remote.

The XP Deus
Lightweight and compact: extend or fold away in seconds
At about 1.7 to 1.9 pounds with no remote on the stem, the XP DEUS (pronounced day-uhs) offers exceptional comfort, speed and performance. The S-Telescopic LITE stem folds down in about five seconds, to roughly 26 inches with the 9" coil attached.
This package is built on two wireless elements:

The coil and headphones communicate via a digital wireless link developed specifically for metal detecting, with 36 channels selected automatically to keep the signal clean. A Deus remote control can be added later and works alongside the WS5.
DEUS features an ergonomic stem design that is comfortable and easy to use. A durable molded rubber grip provides an improved operating angle for hours of fatigue-free use. The arm cup is produced from a plastic resin that is both durable and flexible.

The entire detector is built into the search coil! Unlike traditional metal detectors, a wire is no longer required to convey the signal. The target signal is digitized and analyzed directly at the source by a miniature digital circuit. This design improves the quality of signal acquisition and delivers power, speed and precision.
